How to connect Metamask to Optimized BNB Chain (opBNB)

In this article, you will be provided a step-by-step guide on how to add opBNB to Metamask.

opBNB is a Layer 2 scaling solution that is built on built on the Binance smart chain(BSC) serving as a roll-up network to increase transactions per second(TPS) and reduce gas fees.

Originally, Metamask is developed for Ethereum virtual machine(EVM) compatible blockchains. However, it now supports various blockchains including BSC which opBNB is built on.

Prerequisites

  • Web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, or Brave)

Install Metamask

The first step is to install Metamask on your browser. However, this depends on the browser you are using. You can install it by clicking on your browser listed below :

Upon successful installation of Metamask on your browser, go ahead and open it from your extension tabs. You can decide to pin it for easy access. Your interface should look like below :

Click on the checkbox and click on create a new wallet or import an existing wallet if you already have an existing wallet.

Next, you will be shown this interface.

Click on I agree and you will be shown an interface to create a password for your Metamask like the one below :

Create your password, click the checkbox, and click Create a new wallet and follow the instructions to secure your wallet. You should see a similar interface below:

Add opBNB Network

Metamask was originally built for the Ethereum blockchain, so the default network after installation is Ethereum Mainnet.

Click on Ethereum Mainnet , and click on add network it from the drop-down.

By default, BNB Chain and some other popular blockchains are listed. In order to add opBNB, click on Add a network manually .

opBNB Testnet

Enter the following details in the fields below and click on Save .

Upon adding the network successfully, you should see a similar interface below :

opBNB Mainnet

Enter the following details in the fields below and click on Save .

You should see a similar interface to the one below if you have successfully opBNB Mainnet to your Metamask.
